Attendance and Absence

Attendance

If your child is absent for any reason it is important that the school is contacted by 9:30 am, where possible, on each day of absence and then informed in writing of the reason for the absence on their return to school. Absences are monitored closely and recorded each day. The school may also contact you by text message, if we have any unexplained absences. Absence can be reported by either emailing absence@radstock.wokingham.sch.uk or calling the school office on 0118 986 9050 and selecting option 1 to leave a message.

Absence

At Radstock Primary School, we believe term time absences should be actively discouraged. Our purpose is to ensure pupils achieve their full potential - there is a clear link between poor attendance and underachievement. Whilst we recognise that there may be occasions when a parent/carer considers there are extenuating or compassionate reasons for such absence, the provisions of the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 mean that the Headteacher can only grant leave of absence if the circumstances are considered 'exceptional'. No holiday leave will be authorised.

The procedure for requesting term time leave of absence is set out in the school's Attendance Policy, which can be downloaded from the Policies section of the website. Leave of Absence forms are available from the School Office and also the website (see "Useful Information and Forms").
