History

"A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots." ~ Marcus Garvey

History at Radstock Primary School is engaging and thought provoking.  It is taught through learning projects in cross curricular topics which change each term.  We want our children to appreciate how History has shaped their lives, through learning about significant events and people, such as the impact of the Roman Empire or the excitement of landing on the Moon.   We aim to have a hands on approach where ever possible: with a visit from an old fashioned bus, fossil hunting, a local history trail and a Roman day being some of the ways we bring history to life.

Through well planned activities, the children are encouraged to think about and question historical sources and develop a sense of chronology.

We hope their knowledge of the history of Britain and the wider world will encourage them to develop an understanding of their own lives and the lives of others, whether it be in the present or the past.
